magazine cites a recent study at the University of North
Carolina, Chapel
Hill. The study found that sedentary children were at
least 5 times
more likely to develop metabolic syndrome (which may be a
precursor to diabetes)
than the active children. Remember, fitness and healthy
habits are
life long!!
**According
to WebMD.. Here are 10 Fitness facts to encourage you to keep up
that fitness regimen!
1. Exercise Boosts Brain Power: There are a number
of studies related to this fact.. I posted a reference to a
study related to exercise decreasing / preventing the onset of
dementia a few months ago.
2. Motivation Melts Away
Stress: There are a number of stress reducing
effects of exercise including the elicitation of the relaxation
response. As you may realize, exercise at times can be
calming, and at other times energizing (i.e. when you come to
6am class tired as you enter and geared up for the day when you
leave!)
3. Exercise Gives you
Energy: This can be both in the short and long term as
over time you become conditioned and increase endurance!
4. It's not that Hard to
Find Time for Exercise: Remember, it is important to
make time for yourself. Building exercise into a routine
is imperative. In addition, you
can incorporate small amounts of exercise throughout the day
such as via
parking further away or taking the stairs.
5. Fitness Can Help
Build Relationships:
Not only is fitness great for stress relief and as a
mood elevator,
we too have developed an aerobic family over the years!! In
addition, pairing
up with friends can be motivating!
6. Exercise Can Help Ward
off Disease:
Studies have shown the beneficial effects of
exercise on a number
of health conditions and diseases including heart attack,
diabetes, stroke,
and obesity.
7. Fitness Helps Pump up
your Heart:
Fitness of course is not only important for skeletal muscle
strength
and endurance, yet too for that all important muscle, the
heart!!
8. Exercise Helps Let you
Eat More:
Exercise not only burns off calories, it too boosts
the metabolism
so you burn off more calories!!
9. Exercise Boosts
Performance: Performance
may be enhanced in many ways including sports performance,
energy level,
and mood!
10. Weight Loss is not
the Only Exercise Goal: Exercise for all the wonderful
benefits!!!
